Licensed online sportsbooks give new customers bonus bets or 'second-chance' credits after a small first wager; matched betting tries to lock in part of that value by hedging. Bonus bets pay out only the winnings (not the stake), so realized value is well below the headline figure.

Realized cash value is typically a fraction of face value and not guaranteed. Excluded states = no statewide online sports betting (11 with none: AL, AK, CA, GA, HI, ID, MN, OK, SC, TX, UT; retail-only: MS, MT, NE, NM, ND, SD, WA; WI authorized online Apr 2026 but not launched) per rg.org (updated 2026-08-27). Florida is limited to one app (Hard Rock Bet). Must be physically located in a legal state when betting.
